Introducing Burness Paull
A law firm with a Scottish heart and a global mind.
From advising international corporates on their investments in the UK to following our clients into other jurisdictions, we have proven expertise with a global reach.
From New York to Paris, Sydney to Singapore we’ve formed strong bonds with international firms to help our respective clients do business in each other’s jurisdiction. Whether they’re looking for advice on M&A, funds, finance or litigation, clients value the seamless service this partnership approach provides - and we do too. It is thanks to the special relationships that we have developed through the TAG Alliances network that allows us to think globally while acting locally.
We deliver a premium Scots law service and many of our lawyers have worked at top City of London firms, this enables us to deliver a top quality service across our core sectors.
This is why so many international firms have entrusted us to work with their clients including Blackstone, Brown Forman, Goldman Sachs, KKR, Merck & Co., Inc. and New York Life. We hope you will too.

Some of our recent TAG Alliances success stories...
A prominent high-net-worth investor required legal assistance in the USA. Following a successful referral, the American TAGLaw firm has represented the client on several transactions including:
- a significant secured loan transaction with a developing enterprise;
- a pilot joint venture to test market a developing agricultural business;
- an acquisition of a controlling interest in a business engaged in product development, manufacturing and distribution of a hard seltzer with well-known exclusive branding; and
- an innovative joint venture involving the acquisition of secured debt of a distressed business.
Delmar Systems, a Houston-based business specialised in offshore mooring solutions, on its acquisition of the entire share capital of European business Vryhof, consisting of its subsidiaries, Deep Sea Mooring and Vryhof Anchors. The transaction required input from both Norway and the Netherlands.
Long term adviser to Weir Group, the Scotland-based international engineering company. This involves servicing Weir Group’s global needs supported by our alliance of best of breed firms, which allows Weir Group a single point of contact in cross border transactions.
Appointed by Whyte & Mackay, the Glasgow-based spirits company managing whisky brands such as The Dalmore and Jura, as sole employment lawyers in relation to their global workforce. Within the first couple of years we have advised on a number of complex jurisdictional matters involving multiple US states, Mexico, Russia and China.
Guide to doing business in the UK
Burness Paull is passionate about helping businesses investing in the UK to have the best start and to guide them through the legal and regulatory landscape.
Which is why, in collaboration with the Department for International Trade, we created a guide that aims to provide businesses with a helpful summary of some of the main legal and regulatory compliance requirements in the UK.
