All Rise Burness Paull!

APRIL

The Financial Sector Group team very much had the “city on lockdown” as they welcomed a number of financial sector clients for an evening with chart topping superstars Blue!
The team hosted a Blue themed reception in our Edinburgh business lounge followed by a trip to the Usher Hall to see the band live in concert.

Pensions, Policy and Patient Capital

APRIL

Lynsey Whelan attended an event co-hosted by Scottish Financial Enterprise, CMS and Hyman Robertson, which focused on the tensions between the policy intentions and existing legislative and fiduciary duties applying to pensions.

Digi Assets conference in London

MAY

The team was pleased to attend the Digi Assets event, hosted in London by TradeTech in May. Jamie Gray and Lynsey Whelan heard from a wide range of speakers, including a particularly interesting talk from Russell Barlow, Global Head of Alternative Investment Strategies at Abrdn, on financial tokens.

FinTech Circle Drinks

MAY

Whilst in London this May, Jamie and Lynsey attended the annual FINTECH Circles ‘Spring Drinks’ event, meeting several leading professionals in the FinTech industry.

SFE/Scotland Office Roundtable

MAY

Caroline Stevenson was invited to attend a roundtable with UKG minister Lord Cameron of Lochiel who was recently appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Scotland, and whose ministerial responsibilities include the economy, business, infrastructure and investment.

The event was an opportunity to hear from Lord Cameron on the UK government’s priorities for financial and professional services in Scotland, as well as discuss the role of our sector in the Scottish economy and the broader economic outlook.

ESG Innovation summit at Dynamic Earth

JUNE

Lynsey Whelan had the opportunity to attend the ESG Innovation Summit in June. The event explored the growing role of digital technology in driving ESG impact and gave some enlightening examples from the financial services sector.

Navigating Growth with David Ferguson Event, co-hosted by Jamie Gray and Lynsey Whelan

JUNE

Burness Paull LLP co-hosted a ‘Navigating Growth’ event, bringing together a range of financial services executives to hear from David Ferguson, CEO of Seccl and former Chairman of FinTech Scotland and Fintech Envoy for Scotland.

Summer Reception

JUNE

The financial services regulatory team, along with the broader corporate finance team hosted a summer reception for clients at the Timberyard, Edinburgh. The event proved an excellent way to catch up with clients and contacts.

FCA Sandbox Participation

Lynsey Whelan is a mentor for the market abuse techsprint, which is helping to develop technology and AI-powered solutions to industry challenges. The Demo Day is scheduled for the 22nd of July, in the FCA offices.
