Financial Services Regulatory Team

Quarterly Update

Our Financial Services Regulatory team have had a great start to the year, with lots of interesting client work and the team hosting client events which have provoked excellent discussions and insights.

Key highlights include continuing to support our clients on DORA compliance and hosting a webinar on retail banking developments and roundtables for in-house lawyers on both AI and Life & Pensions. We are really enjoying engaging with clients on a roundtable basis, it's proving so valuable for those in attendance to discuss issues and worry beads with their peers. If you'd like us to host a roundtable on a particular topic then please let us know.

We've also been analysing the (continuingly busy!) regulatory developments landscape in the UK and Europe, and you'll see our Legal Alerts and articles on the hot topics listed below. The key message for the start of the year is the UK and EU regulators' support of growth - and of particular importance, we've seen the publication of the UK Government's Action Plan to ensure regulators and regulations support growth, and the FCA's 5-Year Strategy. We’ve also shared below our Q2 events where we will be looking further at recent regulatory updates.

Congratulations also to those in the team who have been promoted - more on that below. I'm really proud of them!

Our clients range from major retail banks, investment managers and large life assurance companies, to the newest fintechs and other businesses for whom regulated activity is ancillary to their core activities. Whatever the challenge, we seize it with enthusiasm and take time, from the outset, to establish the commercial imperatives behind your legal requirements.

We’d love to have a chat over coffee to hear what’s going on in your organisation and so please do get in touch if you’d like to catch up, whether in Scotland, London or elsewhere!

Life and Pensions Roundtable: Q2 2025

Following the success of our Life and Pensions Roundtable in Q4, we were delighted to host another roundtable in March. The insightful conversation covered recent regulatory developments impacting the L&P sector (including the Advice Guidance Boundary Review, ESG and Sustainability and Vulnerable Customers) and other topics our in-house legal attendees were interested in.

We are already planning our next roundtable on the afternoon of 12 June 2025 so please contact us if you would like to hear more!

AI Roundtable for In-House Financial Services Lawyers

In February, the Financial Services Regulatory and Technology & Commercial teams hosted an engaging roundtable with in-house lawyers in the financial sector on the topic of the role of AI in financial services. The discussion touched on a number of areas such as transforming customer experience, future trends and innovations and risks and opportunities.

We have broad experience on the practical considerations for implementing AI tools and have provided client training sessions, attended FCA events, and published thought leadership articles. We have also supported contract reviews, and updates to contractual provisions restricting the use of AI in the supply chain.

If you would like to discuss the implementation of AI in your organisation please let us know and we are also happy to provide a session on the risks, benefits and FCA expectations on the use of AI.
